LBSU 302: Week 5 Blog Post

The empirical research article I located really opened my eyes to the whole government
aspect of the educational system. It shed light on actually how many committees and acts and documents are all geared toward bettering the education system and how much farther we still have to go. With my topic being about helping at risk children, I was hoping to find something that proved the benefits of what an early intervention can do for them. This article describes how so many more children who would be eligible for early intervention programs has dramatically increased during the past several years. However, these programs have to fit certain criteria for them to be established, which was a new aspect of the whole early intervention program I wasn’t too keen on. At the beginning of the session I was considering what assessment and early intervention were most effective for children with special needs, however this really made me reconsider my research to just the proven benefits of an early intervention program for the children who are eligible for it.

So far, I feel my research skills are improving. I do feel a little overwhelmed at times at how many different resources are available and how many different ways you can do research on just one topic. However, I feel like that is just something I have to get used to, since the only way I used to research was through Google. Now when I go to use the Leatherby Library to look for research information, I feel more confident when I go to research than I did in the beginning of the session. I hope I can effectively use all that I am learning, and continue to learn, to succeed in this course and the rest of my time at Brandman.
